I
am a UK based cameraman, editor and director. I began my film career working as
a freelancer in various disciplines including focus puller,
gaffer and camera operator. In 1994 I gained a place at the
NORTHERN SCHOOL OF FILM AND TELEVISION where I trained as a
cinematographer and earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Film
Production. Immediately after graduation I attended the THIRD EUROPEAN MASTERCLASS FOR
CINEMATOGRAPHY STUDENTS, held in Budapest, where I trained
under Billy Williams BSC and Vilmos Zsigmond ASC.

On my
return to the UK I landed my first job as a focus puller on
a 35mm feature. I then began a long association with London
based MUSO PRODUCTIONS, focus pulling and camera operating
on 16mm and 35mm commercials, tour films and pop promos for
bands including THE PRODIGY and ORBITAL. In 1998 I commenced
work on my own broadcast DV documentary project CROPPIES, as
well as helming 2nd Unit Cinematography for the UK’s first
ever 8 perf. 70mm production LOST KINGDOM. My enduring
fascination with large format has seen me attend eight IMAX
film conferences worldwide, and 2009's WIDESCREEN WEEKEND
event at the Bradford International Film Festival where I
was invited to show two pieces.

In April
of 1999 I travelled to Baghdad to shoot a news piece for
SANDMAN PRODUCTIONS about the impact of sanctions, and later
created
THE FIRE THIS TIME with
writer / documentary
maker Miriam Ryle. A 78 minute audio CD that chronicled the
fate of Iraq, it was released in 2002 to critical acclaim.
Since the album’s completion I have continued to work as a
cinematographer, Glidecam + Steadicam operator, editor and gaffer on
features, corporates, shorts, music videos, commercials, documentaries and
educational films.
In 2006
I formed the (now disbanded) association PMW CREATIVE,
between myself, US large format cinematographer Lee Parker
and Irish computer animator Glenn Marshall. I have since developed a specialisation in digital
motion controlled timelapse cinematography, and have
collaborated several times with Danish director
Lasse Hoile
on promos and tour films for DREAM THEATRE, OPETH and
PORCUPINE TREE.
I have
experience in all disciplines of the camera department, in all formats from 8mm to 70mm,
from DV to HD. I have shot
in France, Russia, the US, Ireland and all around the UK,
and am a Glidecam Pro owner / operator.
